The Big Friendly Read 2016 Summer Reading Challenge
The Reading Agency 2016 Summer Reading Challenge will be The Big Friendly Read, celebrating 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl, and the themes of mischief, invention, friendship, adventure, wordplay and champions. The Challenge will begin in children’s libraries on Saturday 16th July and end on Saturday 10th September. The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read six books during the long summer holiday. Children can read whatever they like - fact books, joke books, picture books, audio books - just as long as they are borrowed from the library. Every time children finish a book they get stickers and rewards and there's a certificate for everyone who finishes. Children join the Challenge at their local library. The Challenge is for all children, whatever their reading ability. Children who are not reading independently can share their books with a family member or friend, or they might prefer to listen to audio books. We have a range of materials to enable children with additional needs to participate as well. You can find out more about these by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by speaking to your local library contact.
