ARK Little Ridge are passionate about the importance of Physical Education (PE) for all of our children. As a school, we have chosen to adapt the award winning Rising Stars ‘Champions’ programme to ensure we deliver a broad skills-based curriculum. This programme includes sport and fitness-focused activities that educate children in the importance of being physically active and fostering a love of sport.
Our focus is to develop children’s fundamental movement skills during key stage 1 improving agility, balance and coordination. These skills are applied in a range of activities and team games with pupils given opportunities to practise and apply tactics for defending and attacking.
These basic movement skills are extended in key stage 2 with children developing their ability to link sequences of movement. Key stage 2 classes are taught a range of invasion games including netball, basketball, hockey and football. Our aim is to encourage children to be physically active and promote a love of sport building on our RIDGE values in PE lessons and competitions.
ARK Little Ridge is an active member of the Hastings & Rother School Games Partnership. This valuable link has enabled us access CPD opportunities for our teachers in Dance lessons, develop our whole-school curriculum and enter all competitions hosted by the partnership. We are proud to have achieved the Schools Games Mark to Gold level for the second year running, demonstrating our commitment to increasing participation in physical activity for all our pupils.
